After 15 years of practicing traditional dentistry, Dr. Cornelius was diagnosed with extreme levels of mercury poisoning from years of high mercury exposure removing mercury fillings from his patients. This began a journey of questioning everything that he had learned in dental school and continuing education over the years. Separately, his wife was on her own journey with health issues and had found Functional Medicine to be the healing that she had sought after for years in the traditional medicine world to no avail. Together, they “jumped off the deep end” into exploring, understanding, and implementing the most holistic lifestyle possible. This immediately overflowed into Dr. Cornelius’ practice. As you will often hear him quote, “I can’t unlearn what I have now learned on my quest for truth and understanding of the human body”. He is a wealth of information and loves sharing what he has learned on his journey with his family, friends, team, and patients.
Dr. Cornelius was born in Springfield, Oregon, and grew up in the country where he spent his youth involved in 4H and different entrepreneurial opportunities. At age 18, he joined the ARMY and was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he spent the next four years working for Psychological Operations and serving as his team’s medic. During this time, he met the love of his life and quickly married her. Today, they have eight children, four grandchildren and counting and have lived a very adventurous life worldwide.
Dr. Cornelius attended dental school at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, in one of the world’s seven Blue Zones which are specific regions around the world where people live measurably longer, healthier lives. He served on the Student Government Board during his time as a student. He has a heart to help others and has been on many dental mission trips to Kenya, El Salvador, Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Sierra Leone and Belize. His hobbies are gardening, reading, sailing, hunting, mountain climbing, and woodworking. He also loves being with his family, hiking and spending time in nature.
Dr. Cornelius has a passion to spend the rest of his life learning. He has spent over 2000 hours since graduating in 2009, furthering his dental education in Biological and Holistic Dentistry, Surgery, Implants, Sleep and Airway Obstruction and Orthodontics. Dr. Cornelius has received the Mastership Award from the Academy of General Dentistry. He has studied under Dr. Dominik Nischwitz and Dr. Judson Wall in his pursuit of providing the best Holistic and Biological Dentistry for his patients. He loves teaching and working with his patients to help them achieve health optimization.
